ToText - Pop up a blank text screen, preserving nearly everything.
Copyright (c) 1990, Thomas Zerucha / 24075 Lee Baker / Southfield, MI 48075
Version 0.9
This is a TSR using ALT-T to summon the text screen, and ESC to release it.
This program has two purposes:
1. A "screen hider". There is a fancy commercial program I bought
that did not quite work on any of the systems I tried it on, and
often crashed. I called them at the number listed and no one has
yet returned my call. The general idea is to have a quick keystroke
which can hide sensitive information (i.e. the game you are playing
at the moment).
2. To allow other TSRs and programs which otherwise cannot pop up
over graphics screens. I have at least two such utilities, Qedit
TSR from SemWare, and a Lan popup. Either they don't popup, or
they do, but the screen isn't quite saved right.
Licensing Terms:
This is a "pre-shareware" release. What that means is that I don't expect you
to contribute for a beta copy. So you have permission to freely copy this
program until a 1.0 version is available. If you wish to contribute money
or bug reports, both are welcome. (this will speed a stable version's
development). When the 1.0 version is available, the suggested contribution
will be $10.00 for the first site's copy, $5 for each additional. An extra
$5 will get you the next release (if you don't want to search the boards).
When 1.0 or above is available, I expect you to contribute and use the
updated version.
Bugs:
Hercules Graphics don't work yet, and modes 7 and F (MDA and EGA 350 line mono)
don't clear the screen, but it does save and restore the screen properly.
Some of the things I plan when I have time include:
Swap to disk: So it takes less memory.
Programmable swapped text screens.
Set mode for text screen (number of lines/80-40/Color-Mono etc.)
Speaker quieting (for game swaps)
Settable hotkey (and goback key) - and lower level tests so it
works under more conditions).
Source is available under the following terms:
For integration into a public domain, freeware, or "Copyleft" program, with
no restrictions on copying and usage other than those relating to preventing
someone else from charging for distribution or copying:
$25.00
For Shareware programs which have only the contribution and timelimits as
restrictions above those listed above (for PD):
$50.00 ($25 now, $25 when it is released)
Commercial programs and special restrictions will require a negotiated license.
